Big Bend athletes earn combined 3.07 GPA during winter quarter

Big Bend Community College Athletes had another stellar quarter in the classroom boasting a combined 3.07 grade point average (GPA) during the winter quarter.

The Big Bend Athletic Department is known for recruiting student-athletes that have success both inside and outside of the classroom. They have been the winner of the Northwest Athletic Conference (NWAC) President’s Cup that recognizes the highest academic achievement within the conference, for two consecutive years (three total) and placed second twice in the five-year existence of the award.

“It just proves that our coaches are going out and recruiting high-quality people – not just high-quality athletes, but high-quality people,” said Athletic Director Mark Poth. “We want our student-athletes to have success in all facets of their Big Bend experience and we are committed as a department to helping them achieve greatness.”
Leading the way were the women’s basketball team who carried a 3.65 GPA during their historic run to the Final 4 of the NWAC basketball tournament.

“The one consistent theme with (the women's basketball team) is that they want to excel, in all that they do," said BBCC Head Women's Basketball Coach Preston Wilks. "Their excellent GPA mark is indicative that they thrive in all aspects of their lives, not just on the basketball court. This amazing group of women continues to set the standard for all those teams that follow after them.”
