Mennonite Country Auction moves to ONLINE for 2020

New format with the same purpose of helping those in need in the name of Christ

For Goodness Sake Posted on Jun 22, 2020
The steering committee of the Mennonite Country Auction (MCA) regrets to announce that the 2020 Auction will move to an online-only format this year, finishing on October 3, 2020, MCA’s traditional first Saturday of October. All on-site elements of the sale are canceled in light of the COVID-19 pandemic. While the situation is far from clear for October, it appears unlikely that conditions will be sufficiently stable to ensure that we can gather safely as a community. We look forward to returning to our full program next year, continuing our 43-year tradition of celebration and service.

“MCA is always a highlight of the year at Menno for the Washington Mennonite Churches,” Auction chair Michael Claassen said. “It is a time to gather as friends and family from all over and to share gifts together and to share with our community. It is a tough decision especially given that we were to celebrate the 100 year anniversary of the important work of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) this year. Sadly, we could not see a good way to move forward with an event with the appropriate levels of safety.”

Photo of the featured quilt was made and donated (for a past auction event) by Mary Cender Miller, Seattle.

The needs MCC meets are even more critical in these times. MCA has always been a time of celebration with the purpose of helping those in need in the name of Christ. That purpose remains equally important this year as in all the previous years, if not more so. We invite our friends and fans to join us for this purpose.

There will be a number of online events around the time of MCA. Opportunities will include assistance projects, celebratory items, as well as a limited number of auction items including quilts and some of the iconic items of the MCA sale. Also, we will be inviting expanded participation in the long-standing My Coins Count collection. Specific plans will be posted later in the summer, likely around the Labor Day holiday.

Updates will be posted to mennonitecountryauction.org and the MCA Facebook page (be sure to like the page). You can also receive occasional updates directly by sending an email to [email protected]. We look forward to returning in person in 2021.

Donations to MCC can be given at any time.
